A few months ago I found myself in Nashville with a bunch of girls for a bachelorette party. One of those girls had a heart like mine and we stole away from the drinking fest to seek out some good eats.
We found City House.

Three years ago I ventured out to Seattle with my parents. For four days we ate and drank and ate and drank and drank…oh and toured the Boenig plant (upon Dad’s request). If you’ve never been I highly recommend it. It’s a beautiful city with an unbelievable amount to do and some of the best food I’ve ever tasted. (more…)

I’ve been busy.
Scratch that.
I’ve been lazy.
But I’m back. It helped that I anted up the dough (a whopping $9.99) to secure misswhisk.com for another year. But mostly because I’ve been making some great stuff and I wanted to share.
If you follow me on facebook it’s no secret that I’ve fallen head over heels for quinoa (pronounced keen-wah). It’s considered a power food packed with protein, amino acids and fiber. The best part is that it’s crazy delicious! I’ve started buying the stuff in bulk at Whole Foods and have used it as a substitute for rice and pasta and as a side dish with vegetables.

Weatherman on Sunday: “The white death is coming.”
I was giddy. I love being snowed in.
This called for some serious cookin’, and there’s nothing better to have on hand on a day like that than a pot of soup. And I made a big ol’ pot of soup because I was praying I would be stranded for days.
This makes A LOT of soup so you better be prepared to
A. Invite a crowd
B. Eat it for lunch and dinner for an entire month
C. Freeze it (minus the pasta)

This one is for all you who said “Yes! I’ll bring an appetizer!” to the next party and have no clue what to bring.
I came up with this idea after the champ decided his new favorite food was potato skins (which lasted about a week). I do love a good cheesy crispy potato skin but one of those monstrosities they serve at restaurants is plenty. I wanted just a bite. Oh, and I wasn’t about to fry anything. (more…)

There has been a long standing argument in my family concerning the Thanksgiving turkey: to cook in a bag or not to cook in a bag.
My sista and I have always stood our ground against our parents that a good turkey does not have to be cooked in a plastic oven bag, stewed and steamed for over three hours. While the bag does produce a relatively good bird (as long as it’s not over cooked), the skin lacks the luster, sheen and crunch that comes from a bird cooked the conventional way.
Over the years my sista and I have tried several recipes to rid my parents of this ridiculous idea. Each year we tried, our efforts would be met with “this is delicious” but nothing was good it enough to make them convert.
This year I volunteered to cook Thanksgiving dinner for my immediate family: parents, brother, sister, spouses, their 7 kids and of course the Champ. Nervous but excited to take on the challenge I researched for weeks to find the bird recipe that would finally flip the other half. (more…)

Trick or Treat was last week, not on Sunday but on a random Thursday. I don’t know why my town does this, it annoys me. But I do love the little halloweeners in their superhero and princess costumes running around the neighborhood with candy on the brain. So of course I wanted The Champ to come over and join in the fun with me – no use in going at it alone.
“Come over! The halloweeners will be here soon!”
“I’m not sitting outside and handing out candy.”
“Why?!?”
“It’s freezing.”
“I’ll make you squash soup with cheesy croutons.”
“I’ll be there in 10.”
I’m shameless.

Corned beef is one of my all time favorite foods. Last meal favorites. There’s a lot of good corned beef out there…
Danny’s Deli, Katzinger’s, Nates, Joes…
There’s also A LOT of bad corned beef out there. Most of which has been made in my own home. (more…)

I hate canned soup.
Hate is a strong word.
Let me repeat myself. I hate canned soup.
BUT there are some great canned items than can make for a delicious soup!
